4)PORTRAIT DRAWING, INTENSIVE WEEK COURSE by Peter Eurlings Monday 9 till Friday 13 February 2015 (organized by CURSUSLAB AMSTERDAM)

Drawing made by Chris (model Lenie)Drawing made by MaroesjaAnatomy of the Head - Anatomie van het hoofdPortrait drawing, teacher: Peter Eurlings

This workshop is intended especially for beginners, people who think that they cannot draw, and for people wo want to refreshen their knowledge. We will draw only, draw and once more draw. The building on the corner of the street started as a drawing by the architect. The car in which you drive started as a sketch on a piece of paper. The cup you are using to drink was outlined first by its designer. The heart surgeon makes drawing notes to prepare himself.

Drawing is the fundamental basic of almost any subject. To draw means to learn looking at. It teaches you to understand why you experience something as being beautiful. It teaches you (again) to open up your eyes for all the beauty around you.

Classes are given by means of clear practical instruction on the principles and methods of drawing. These principles will be introduced by excercises and portrait study with a model. Several aspects will be completed with examples from art. The emphasis lies on traditional technique . We start at 0 and finish at 100. If you are able to learn the basics of a foreign language then you will be able to learn the principles of drawing as well. If you consider yourselves as an advanced student then this workshop will refresh your drawing experience.

5)"ALLA PRIMA" (DIRECT) OILS STILL LIFE PAINTING - INTENSIVE WEEK COURSE by Peter Eurlings Monday 2 till Friday 6 March 2015 (organization by CURSUSLAB AMSTERDAM)

Alla Prima Still life painting, painted by Alla Prima Still life painting, painted with Oils by BartWeek course Alla Prima – Still life in oils - by Peter Eurlings

Alla Prima, in English ‘directpainting’, in Italian ‘a prima vista’. Technical speaking: paint your first impression direct on the canvas. Or: combine the (different) steps of 'drawing', 'light-dark' and 'color' into one step.

Directpainting was done for the 'first time' (=on a huge scale) in history by the impressionists.
They wanted to catch the first impression of the light in the same moment.

Today the "Alla Prima" way of painting is a popular way of working for both landscape, still life and portraiture. It is one of the most 'lively' ways of painting, but also the most difficult, because shape, light / dark, and color are applied simultaneously. It is the way for a quick study sketch, an abstracting impression or an abstract representation in which the main role is played by color. Sometimes the paint is mixed directly on top of the canvas. This is called wet-on-wet painting.

What are we going to do?

In this intensive "Alla Prima" still life week course you will learn the basics of oils. You will learn how to use and apply the systematic guidelines for setting up a still life. Because of the 'compactness' of the course you will learn by an accelerated pace, building up your skills and knowledge on top of that of the previous day.
